This is my version of the Indian staple dish. I have broken the steps down to make it easy to prepare and enjoy. Best served with naan (see our recipe below) and rice. I hope your family enjoys this dish as much as mine does!

Cook Time: 1 Hour
Servings: 4-6
Onion Paste
Ingredients for Onion Paste
- 1 Large Onion (Sliced)
- 1 Tablespoon of Oil
Directions for Onion Paste
- In a large pot (to be used for all parts of the recipe), sauté onion with the oil until the onions are light brown.
- In a blender, add in mixture and blend until the onions have become a paste. Set aside.
Marinade
Ingredients for Marinade
- 1/4 Cup of Plain Yogurt
- 1 Tablespoon of Oil
- 2 Teaspoons of Salt
- 1 1/2 Teaspoons of Ground Cumin Powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon of Turmeric Powder
- 2 Tablespoons of Garlic (Minced)
- 2 Tablespoons of Ginger (Minced)
- 2 Teaspoons of Tikka Powder or Paste
- 1 Teaspoon of Garam Masala
- 1 Teaspoon of Lemon Juice (To Taste)
- 1/4 Cup of Tomato Paste
- 1 Teaspoon of Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon of Dry Kastoori Methi
- Red Chili to Taste
Directions for Marinade
- Add all ingredients into a bowl. Mix well. Set aside.
Marinated Chicken
Ingredients for Chicken
- 3 Pieces of Chicken Breast (diced into bite-sized pieces)
- 1 Tablespoon of the Marinade
Directions for Chicken
- In a bowl, add the chicken breast and a tablespoon of the marinade.
- Stir well. Set aside for at least 30 minutes.
Assembly
Assembly Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons of Oil
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
- 1 Bay Leaf
- 6 Tablespoons of Butter
- Marinated Chicken
- Onion Paste
- Remainder of Marinade
- 1/2 Cup of Water
- 2 Cups of Whipping Cream
Directions for Assembly
- In the same large pot (used for onions), add in oil. Let oil heat up. Medium heat.
- Add in cinnamon stick and bay leaf. Sauté for 5-6 minutes.
- Add in butter and marinated chicken. Sauté until the chicken is half cooked. Stir often.
- Add in the onion paste, the rest of the marinade, and water. Stir on medium for 2 minutes.
- Add whipping cream. Turn temperature down and bring to a slow boil. Simmer for 30 minutes.
- Taste for salt and spiciness. Add in more whipping cream (for extra sauce) if needed.
