Au Gratin Potatoes

This is the ultimate side dish. The thinly sliced potatoes layered with cheese and potatoes makes this everyone’s favorite to accompany a meal!

Prep Time: 25 Minutes

Cook Time: 30-40 Minutes

Servings: 4-6

Ingredients

  • 2 Russet Potatoes (Peeled & Sliced Thin)
  • 1 Teaspoon of Olive Oil
  • 1/2 White Onion (Sliced Thin)
  • 3 Tablespoons of Butter
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Salt
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Pepper
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Granulated Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon of Red Pepper Flakes (Optional)
  • 1 Teaspoon of Dried Parsley
  • 1 Cup of Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 2 Cups of Sharp or Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese (Reserve 1/2 for top)

Directions

  1. Boil thinly sliced potatoes in water 5 minutes until almost tender. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a pan, heat olive oil. Add in onion. Sauté 2-3 minutes and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add in butter, heavy whipping cream, salt, pepper, garlic powder, parsley, cheese, and red pepper flakes (optional). Bring to a boil. Add salt to taste.
  4. Spray a glass oven safe dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  5. Place a little sauce on the bottom.
  6. Add one layer of potato on top of the sauce.
  7. Add a layer of sautéd onions.
  8. Cover with sauce. Repeat layers of potato, onions, and sauce.
  9. Top with reserved cheese.
  10. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes until golden brown and potatoes are cooked through.
